- King’s has been granted £1.5m in funding from Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund to establish a fully supported acceleration program aimed at transforming medical devices (MedTech) into both commercial success and clinical impact.
- The project Collaborative Centre of Excellence for Healthcare Technology Commercial Translation (CCoE), led by Professor Sebastien Ourselin FReng FMedSci, Head of the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s, will leverage the collective expertise and resources of King’s. CCoE aims to pave the way for early-stage commercialization ventures for medical devices, ultimately bringing significant benefits to patients.
- CCoE is in collaboration with Queen Mary University London, City University of London, and St George’s University of London. CCoE will be situated at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE). LIHE, directed by the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, stands as an exclusive hub for the translation of MedTech.
- The Centre will host the inaugural MedTech company builder in the UK, offering an acceleration program tailored to MedTech startups and spinouts from King’s, as well as UK and international partners. Successful candidates will benefit from direct mentorship from King’s experts in healthcare, entrepreneurship, and innovation. This will aim to create a streamlined process for the development of groundbreaking healthcare technologies for both commercial and clinical success.
- The involvement of the King’s Entrepreneurship Institute will be integral to the program’s development. Additionally, the team of experts from King’s specializing in Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Health Technology Assessment will seamlessly incorporate these fields into the acceleration program.
