King’s College London has launched the UK’s first AI for Science Master’s programme, aiming to produce interdisciplinary experts capable of addressing complex global challenges through artificial intelligence. The initiative was unveiled by Feryal Clark MP, Minister for AI and Digital Government, alongside leading King’s scientists. This programme is part of a £45.5 million investment by King’s College London to advance scientific research and education.

Designed for science and mathematics graduates, the MSc offers training in AI techniques and their application to real-world scientific problems. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the ethical, social, and legal implications of AI, preparing them to navigate the evolving landscape of AI technologies. The curriculum includes modules such as Foundations of AI, Responsible AI, and Science Application & Engagement at the Forefront of AI, with optional courses in areas like AI and Robotics Engineering.

The programme features interdisciplinary research projects, including AI applications in biomedical science, materials science, and assistive robotics. For instance, Dr. Heba Sailem is developing AI methods to enhance patient treatment, while Dr. Francisco Martin-Martinez is working on self-healing road surfaces using recycled materials. Minister Clark also witnessed a demonstration of an assistive robot designed to help individuals maintain independence.
